  • My dad died on Oct 11 after a long battle with leukemia. My mom had arranged the funeral ahead of time, and my sister and I stepped in to assist with all the additional errands and tasks to make the service complete. We met with Freddie Adams and Scott Ramsdell two days before the service. In that initial meeting, and through to the completion of the service, they conveyed professionalism and compassion. Freddie in particular had a command of the entire process. He is a consummate professional and leader - compassionate, considerate, well-trained. I thank him for his efforts through this difficult process.

This place is a Nightmare!! One person doesn't know what the others are doing. You get different answers for each person. "Dignity"!! I think not!!!
My mother is stuck there with excuses of when the cremation will take place. I'm sure there will be a big bill at the end of this horrible experience!!!! My mother prepaid for cremation with the National Cremation Society, Culley's Meadow Wood Funeral Home is not a direct provider but a so called "in network". They have no compassion and are very awful to deal with. DON"T USE THEM!!!! They don't even deserve 1 star!!!

Stay clear of this non-sympathetic, unprofessional, greedy funeral home! Be aware that they will try to nickel and dime every penny out of you for things that legally, they cannot charge for, such as having our fathers body removed by another funeral home due to all the issues we had from the very start of dealing with Culley's. We were told it would cost us $3700 just to do a simple cremation with no services and that would allow us to "identify" our fathers body, basically that would be our chance to have our final goodbyes and the funeral director made it clear that it would only be about 20 minutes and that they could either leave him in the clothes he was found in or simply put a hospital gown on him...not once did they offer for us to bring in something to dress out father in. Mind you, his was not our choice of funeral home considering Leon County uses rotation to pick up the deceased, unless a relative is there to designate a specific funeral home, which we all live out of state. Upon call after call to arrange a time that another funeral home, of our choice could pick up our father, Bill, one of the so-called funeral directors called back after 3 messages/calls were left with the phone operator. He was quite pleasant at the beginning of our call but once he realized that we would be having our father picked up and taken to another funeral home, boy did the tables turn. His tone changed and he said that is fine but we will need to sign a release and pay the "removal fee!" I said what do you mean, what is the removal fee and he snapped and said, "well isn't your father in our care?" Whoa! I said tell me how much that is "Sir" and he said $695.00, I replied back, that we would NOT pay a dime as we did not choose your services or your funeral home for picking up of our father, Leon County did, therefore you can bill them since that is the law when pick up was scheduled by Leon county during rotation. He then said well where did you get your information from ma'am, I said Leon County directly! He said he would have to speak with his manager and call me back, which he did shortly after and said I was correct! This place is HORRIBLE! My father being a retired Air Force man of 20 years and a retiree from the state deserved much more than this funeral home had to offer which was nothing but a bunch of lip! Dignity, you should be ASHAMED!

Oh I wish I could go back in time and not use this place. My mother-in-law died five months ago and we still don't have her very simple, low-detail headstone. Lately, the answer has been "It'll be out on the next truck". Two weeks later: "It'll be out on the next truck." This is after they've said that the company making the stone broke it once already. If you ever can get someone on the phone, they tell you they call their customers every Tuesday to give updates. We have not ever, not a single time, gotten a phone call that we didn't initiate, usually the response of multiple attempts to get "Angela" on the phone. I cannot recommend this place. I would have paid twice what they charged to just not be given the runaround and have some very basic customer service. The sad thing is, it isn't necessary. Just be honest with people about what to expect and they won't be unhappy.
